"My Place - Where I love to be"

This year St Mary’s Primary School has officially welcomed Jenny Triglone to the role of Principal.

The new leadership team is currently working towards a vibrant vision for Bellingen’s local catholic primary school.

“Central to our vision is a focus on quality teaching and learning,” said Mrs Triglone. Currently all staff are being trained in PEEL procedures (Project for Enhancing Effective Learning) which will lead to students being more engaged in self-directed learning and different ways of thinking.

Mrs Jenny Triglone

On-going professional development is a high priority for Mrs Triglone who has recently completed a Graduate Diploma of Psychology. “I hope that by continuing my own education I am giving students a good example of how education is a life long endeavour. The diploma itself also gives me a greater background to ensure that here at St Mary’s we strive top enhance the development of the whole child.”

As a long time resident of Bellingen prior to her promotion to Principal, Mrs Triglone recognises the need for strong links between the school and community.

This year a new programme is in place to encourage regular visits from local pre-school children and their parents. The preschoolers have enjoyed visits from the Kindergarten/Year One class for story time. They have also visited St Mary’s to participate in special music and movement classes particularly designed for them and take part in International Day to celebrate the many cultures of Australia.

“Hopefully these visits will help children and their families to feel like a part of St Mary’s community before they even start Kindergarten,” said Mrs Triglone “We have also added wonderful celebrations for Father’s Day, Mothers’ Day and Seniors’ Day to our school calendar to encourage a warm and loving sense of community.”

Mrs Triglone says that her main goals are to maintain St Mary’s fine reputation for education while developing an open and accommodating relationship with the parent community. She hopes that St Mary’s becomes known for its climate of dignity and respect where everyone receives a ‘fair go’.

St Mary’s, whish is happy to accommodate requests for school tours or for general enquiries at ph. 6655 1432, is now open for enrolments for 2009.

Range Ti

Wednedsday 4th June - World Environment Day

The impact of climate change and what can be done about it was the theme for Ranger Tim’s informative presentation for students and preschoolers at St Mary's Primary School Bellingen for World Environment Day.

The Discovery Ranger Program was organised by the parent environment group. Ranger Tim’s concluding message was, “Kick the carbon habit. If you look after the planet it will look after you.” This message was later followed up with special class activities.

 Paper Recycling

 Don't Waste A Valuable Resource

Every year Australian schools primary and secondary, large and small discard tonnes of paper and cardboard that end up buried in landfill.

With minimal effort, waste paper and cardboard can be separated from a school's waste stream, collected and then recycled and remanufactured to become cardboard packaging and newsprint.

Not only does this reduce community reliance on landfill, it helps reduce the use of natural resources for manufacturing a range of paper products.

At St Mary's we have instigated a paper and cardboard recycling program as the first stage of developing a whole school recycling program.
